Domiciliary care

Definition

Domiciliary care is care delivered to people in their own homes by a registered provider, and where it includes personal care it requires CQC registration under the regulated activity of personal care.

In practice

Domiciliary care in practice

It is also called home care or care at home. CQC registers the office the care is coordinated from as the location, rather than each person’s home.

Because the location is an office rather than a care setting, registration evidence leans heavily on systems: recruitment and DBS, training, rotas and travel time, medication administration records, safeguarding routes for staff working alone, and how you supervise people you cannot see.

Applications commonly stall on the registered manager’s experience and on financial viability, because CQC wants to be satisfied the agency can operate safely from day one rather than grow into competence later.
