Who this is for

New providers applying to CQC for the regulated activities that cover dentistry — typically treatment of disease, disorder or injury, diagnostic and screening procedures and surgical procedures. We support practice-based services and mobile or domiciliary dental services visiting care homes and housebound patients alike.

Your registration pathway

  1. Onboarding and requirements gathering. We collect your service details (provider entity, registered manager, clinical model, premises or mobile operating model) and give you a simple checklist of the items only you can obtain — DBS checks, premises lease and landlord consent (or your mobile base arrangements), insurance and indemnity quotes, ICO registration, financial evidence.
  2. Stage 1 delivery — your application pack. We prepare your full set of CQC application policies and complete your application forms with you, in as little as 3–5 working days once requirements are met.
  3. Submission. We check everything and support your provider and registered manager applications through the CQC provider portal.
  4. Stage 2 delivery — assessment and interview support. The full set of “keep ready” documents CQC may request during assessment, your registered manager interview Q&A pack, a 2-hour mock interview with written feedback, follow-up with CQC on your behalf, and appeal support if your application is challenged.
  5. Registration decision. You receive your certificate of registration and can begin seeing patients.

Stage 1 — your application document pack

Every document CQC requires from all provider applicants, written specifically for your dental or oral health service:

  • Complaints policy
  • Consent policy and procedure
  • Equality, diversity and human rights policy
  • Governance and quality assurance policies
  • Infection prevention and control policy (aligned to HTM 01-05 decontamination guidance)
  • Medicines management policy (including local anaesthetics and emergency drugs)
  • Recruitment policy (including GDC registration checks)
  • Safeguarding policy and procedure (adults and children)
  • Statement of Purpose
  • Financial viability statement guidance (completed with your accountant)
  • Provider and registered manager application forms — completed with you

Stage 2 — assessment, interview and follow-up

CQC tells dental applicants to keep a further set of documents ready on request — if you cannot produce them when asked, your application may be delayed. We prepare all of them for you:

  • Business continuity plan
  • Decontamination and instrument reprocessing procedures (HTM 01-05)
  • Freedom to speak up policy
  • Health and safety risk assessment
  • List of risk assessments (including sharps and clinical waste)
  • Medical emergency policy (aligned to Resuscitation Council UK guidance)
  • Radiation protection arrangements guidance (IR(ME)R — where you take radiographs)
  • Significant events policy
  • Staff training matrix
  • Staffing structure

Plus:

  • Registered manager interview question-and-answer preparation pack
  • 2-hour mock interview with written feedback
  • Follow-up with CQC on your behalf until a decision is made
  • Appeal support if your application is challenged

Timescales and payment

Your Stage 1 document pack is delivered in as little as 3–5 working days once your requirements are met. CQC’s own assessment timescales are set by CQC and are outside our control.

You can pay in two stages: 50% to begin (Stage 1 document pack) and 50% at submission stage, which covers your Stage 2 documents, interview preparation, mock interview and CQC follow-up.

What we need from you

Some items can only come from you, and your application cannot progress until they are ready. These are your responsibility and outside our control: DBS checks, premises lease and the landlord’s consent to run a CQC-registered service (or your mobile service base arrangements), public and employer liability insurance and dental indemnity quotes or certificates, GDC registration for clinical staff, ICO registration, and your financial viability statement and bank evidence. We give you a checklist for all of these on day one and guide you through each step.
